Super excited to be a part of the next issue of ACCLAIM titled AFTER DARK! On shelves MONDAY 5th AUGUST! Be sure to get your mitts on a copy and check out the stunning editorial shot by my favourite, Michelle Tran and styled by yours truely… here’s what in store:

The After Dark Issue looks at exactly what goes down when the sun sets. Drawing its inspiration from the dimmer corners of our lifestyle – from midnight creatives to the musicians who frequent the darkest clubs, this issue finds its feet in firmly set in the nighttime.

This issue of ACCLAIM features three unique covers, the beautiful Destiny Papalia graces the cover of our general release with a distinctly dark look. Our first boutique option features a full-scale cover takeover from world-renowned artist Ian Strange – created especially to coincide with the unveiling of his latest body of work, the Suburban project at the National Gallery of Victoria. And finally, our third cover features chartbusting rapper French Montana, shot just after the release of his debut album Excuse My French.

IAN STRANGE

This issue saw Managing Editor Alexandra Weiland reunite with Ian Strange (AKA: Kid Zoom) to discuss his most ambitious art project to date, Suburban. This series has been several years in the making and was unveiled recently at the National Gallery of Victoria. The After Dark issue features an extensive interview with Strange, alongside exclusive documentation of the project courtesy of the artist and his production team. Strange first appeared on the cover of ACCLAIM in 2008, so it was fantastic to reunite with the artist for a project of this scale.

FRENCH MONTANA

Since arriving to the US from Morocco at the age of 13, Karim Kharbouch has had his eyes set firmly on the hustle. Adopting the moniker French Montana, Kharbouch began his career with a candid series of street documentaries entitled Cocaine City that pulled back the curtain on New York’s gritty hip-hop community. Now better known for club anthems like Freaks, Choppa Down, and Pop That, Montana premiered his debut album Excuse My French this May and has been co-signed by some of the biggest names in the industry.

DAVID OBADIA – BROOKLYN WE GO HARD

Although relatively new as a clothing label, French menswear label Brooklyn We Go Hard have been celebrated for their recent collections. Under the direction of co-founder David Obadia the label has flourished, offering contemporary interpretations of timeless menswear classics. We spoke with Obadia about the resurgence of men’s tailoring and BWGH’s creative vision.

PEACE AND LOVE CREW IN NEW YORK CITY

Paris’ notorious Peace and Love graffiti crew recently made a pilgrimage to New York City and esteemed English photographer Will Robson-Scott was there to document the trip for ACCLAIM magazine. Featuring exclusive images, and an in-depth interview with Horfe about the origins and evolution of the world recognised crew – it’s a compelling look at a world that most people never get a chance to see.

ED BANGER 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

This year marks the 10th anniversary of seminal French electro label Ed Banger. Founded by Busy P, the record label is responsible for launching the careers of artists including Justice, Feadz, Breakbot, and Cashmere Cat. We caught up with Busy P and the label’s Creative Director So Me to reminisce about 10 years of partying, and found out what the label have in store for the next decade.
